ABOUT THE EVENT/
The EPIC event is hosted by Recycle Across America (RAA) to kickoff Rhode Island's upcoming #LetsRecycleRIght public education campaign.
Although the purpose of the event is EPIC, the event will be an intimate gathering of VIPs, influencers, leaders and progress-driven people who are committed to improving recycling. At the event, Rhode Island and national celebrities will be photographed by famed-photographer and RISD alumnus, Timothy White for the upcoming statewide #LetsRecycleRIght PSA Campaign, a LONG-RUNNING print, billboard, radio and social media educational recycling campaign.
Additionally we will make history at the event, as the images from the event's photoshoot will be live-streamed onto digital billboards across the U.S. during the event, thanks to the generous donation from Lamar Advertising.

IT'S TIME FOR REAL PROGRESS ...
IT'S TIME FOR A
RECYCLING REVOLUTION!
GOOD NEWS:
You might not know this, but recycling is the #1 action we can all do to simultaneously improve the environment and the economy, create jobs, improve manufacturing, conserve fresh water, reduce CO2 levels, reduce energy use, mitigate climate change, protect finite resources as the human population continues to grow exponentially -- and protect waterways, oceans, sea-life and the food chain that we all rely on.
In other words, recycling is a HOME RUN in the game of life - when it's done properly.
BAD NEWS:
Right now recycling in the U.S. is starting to collapse and fail. In fact, in the state of California alone, more than 450 recycling plants have shut down in the past 12 months. This is happening because most people are confused about recycling due inconsistent and ineffective labeling on recycling bins. As a result, people are throwing millions of tons of 'garbage' in recycling bins each day, which is crippling the economics of recycling and preventing manufacturers from being able to use recycled commodities.
GOOD NEWS:
Good news, there's an easy fix ... society-wide standardized labels for recycling bins. For a simple analogy, imagine road safety if there were never standardized road and stop signs.
WHY RHODE ISLAND?
Rhode Island’s one unified statewide recycling program makes the Ocean State unique and insanely lucky, but that doesn’t make lil’ Rhody immune to the challenges faced by our colleagues across the nation—mainly contamination of the mixed recycling stream. It’s a challenge, but a challenge Rhode Island is fighting head on.
Don’t let Rhode Island’s size fool you. This small state has been trailblazing a recycling revolution since 1986 when it became the first state in the nation to pass mandatory recycling. Fast forward to Earth Day 2016 when Rhode Island added another “first” to its history books by becoming the first state in the nation to adopt standardized recycling bin labels from Recycle Across America.
So, we’re coming together on April 26 to celebrate Rhode Island’s leadership, commitment to decreasing confusion and promoting proper recycling. Why Rhode Island? Because this small state is making a BIG step towards progress.
